Our Jerusalem is the people we already see every day. To help us grow in our awareness that God wants to use us every day to bless the people in our lives, we will practice a Jerusalem Circle.
A Jerusalem Circle is a small group of people focused on checking in with each other about how God is using them in everyday life. This is meant to grow into a regular practice of creating a safe place to ask questions, listen to, celebrate, and learn from other’s experiences in Jerusalem Ministry.
Time: 40-60 min. depending on group size.
Step by step:
- Share with everyone what a Jerusalem mission is–the people already in our lives. How does God want to use us every day to love, bless, and serve those we see regularly?
- Break everyone into groups. Depending on the amount of time you plan, groups can be between 3-7 people. Recommendation: Appoint someone who has been instructed on the vision of the time, to be the facilitator of each group. . Encourage everyone to participate even briefly. Address over-sharing and under-sharing—some people verbally process and others process internally. You can recommend that those who feel like they have a lot to say, to share once, while personally inviting internal processors to share if they’ve been quietly thinking for a while.
- Every person in the group answers the same question. What is happening in your personal “Jerusalem” mission? This may be a new conversation for many people, so tell groups to take time to explore who and what this means in each of their lives. Recommendation: Each person can take personal notes about who and how to serve.
- The goal is growing in our awareness. We don’t need to only share moments where we directly talked with people about Jesus, but also how we can intentionally grow in showing His love to others by serving, encouraging, and blessing them. Everyone should feel free to ask each other questions about growing in this way. Recommendation: Remind groups to beware of striving and performing for God. This awareness is meant to help us realize more and more how He wants to use us.
- Finish by praying for the people that the Lord is highlighting in each person’s “Jerusalem.”
